    About Silver Star, BC

What was originally a local’s ski hill back in the 1960’s, SilverStar Mountain Resort has evolved into British Columbia's 3rd largest resort with more than 3,000 acres of skiable terrain and a charming and vibrant village equipped to entertain locals and visitors alike. Because it lacks international fame, unlike some other Canadian ski resorts, you won’t find intimidating crowds or never-ending lift lines. Located high above British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley, SilverStar is renowned for its light, dry snow, of which it sees an average of 23 feet annually. Its 132 runs spread across three mountain faces with varied terrain including long groomed cruisers, steep powder-filled chutes on its famous back side (Putnam Creek), and a Monster Terrain Park accommodates all levels of skiers and riders. Add that to its quaint and colorful resort village and SilverStar has become one of Canada’s favorite family resorts.

SilverStar is also a renowned cross-country skiing destination; in fact, together with its neighbor Sovereign Lake Nordic Center SilverStar is Canada's largest daily groomed cross-country trail system. Many national teams, including Canada’s and the U.S.’, will train on the area’s 93-plus miles of trails.

When the lifts stop running, or your legs just can’t take any more fresh powder, simply ski back to your doorstep—all accommodations in the village are ski-in, ski-out. Enjoy a nice soak in a private hot tub overlooking the Monashee mountain range or head into the village, which offers 18 dining, bar and entertainment options. Reminiscent of an early 1900’s mining town, the bars, restaurants and shops that line Main Street are filled with long-time residents and local characters who help give SilverStar its down-to-earth, homey feel.

Despite being a lesser-known mountain resort, SilverStar is actually quite accessible. The resort is just 12 miles from Vernon, B.C., and Kelowna Airport (YLW) is a mere 30 minutes from there, so you have plenty of options for ground transportation or rental cars.

When I first saw the SilverStar Village, I felt like I had stepped back in time. The village consists of only a few colorful buildings with wooden walks surrounding each one. What I liked most about it was that it felt that the size of the village was by design and you might even run in to the owner of the resort, who is still very much a part of preserving the authenticity of SilverStar. Everyone knows everyone and all the shop and restaurant owners are friends and most have lived there for decades.

They don't plow the snow through the village. Instead, they groom it so you can actually ski right through!

SilverStar offers crowd-free skiing. Truly. You'll feel like they closed the runs for just you while skiing. There's everything from long, wide groomers to the back bowl, which is ideal for the advanced skier. Take advantage of the My1Pass which includes skiing, snowshoeing, fat biking, tubing and ice skating!

Travel is also pretty simple. It's only an hour away from the Kelowna airport. The lodging options that are available are extremely comfortable and range anywhere from a hotel room to condos.

I tour a lot of resorts, and I always have my eyes open for ski areas that pack a lot of value into a family ski experience. I know how expensive it can be! SilverStar really impressed me when when I visited it. It has 3,265 skiable acres with a good mix of terrain for every level of ability, really affordable lodging and offers lots to do. There is snowshoeing, ice skating, great cross country skiing and awesome terrain parks.

They also have night skiing, a tubing park and the newest addition...PINHEAD BOWLING! The world's first ski-in, ski-out ten pin bowling experience. I have never seen that in any other ski area! If you decide to give SilverStar a try, be sure to save a day or two and visit the Sparkling Hill Resort in Kelowna with its 3.5 million crystals infused throughout the hotel and spa, its infinity pool, dozens of steam baths, and the continent's first cold sauna. You will not be disappointed! Call me and let me guide you through a trip to this gem in British Columbia!
